Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in a sunny spot. Weigela likes well-drained soil lightly enriched with organic matter. At planting, water generously to ensure good soil-to-root contact. A layer of mulch around the base protects the roots and keeps the soil moist.

Weigela is a robust shrub that needs little care once established. Water moderately and regularly during dry spells, especially the first season. A light pruning after flowering encourages branching and keeps a compact shape. No disease or pest treatment is generally required.
