Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, in a sunny spot. Since weigela handles transplanting well, allow 1.2 to 1.5 m of spacing. Water regularly the first season to make sure the roots establish. Mulch the base to hold in moisture.

After flowering, water moderately; weigela resists drought well once established. Prune lightly after flowering to keep the shape and remove dead or badly placed branches. Fertilize in spring with a balanced fertilizer. No disease or pest treatment is needed under normal conditions.
