Planting and care

Plant the weigela in full sun in well-drained, moderately rich soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and set the plant in place without burying the root collar. Water generously at planting and for the first two weeks to make sure the roots establish.

The shrub needs little care once established. Water moderately during dry spells, especially in summer. A light pruning after the first bloom can stimulate summer reblooming. Remove dead or weak wood in spring if needed.
