Planting and care

Plant the weigela in full sun in well-drained soil lightly enriched with organic matter. Fall and spring are the best seasons. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and backfill with a mix of soil and compost.

Water regularly after planting during the first season to make sure the roots take well. Once established, this shrub tolerates moderate drought. Prune lightly after flowering to keep a compact shape and encourage branching. A yearly addition of compost in spring supports abundant flowering.
