Planting and care

Plant lowbush blueberry in acidic, well-drained soil rich in organic matter (leaf mould, peat). Choose a spot in full sun to get the most flowers and fruit. Spacing between plants should be about 60 cm to allow good airflow.

Water regularly for the first two years to keep the soil moist but without waterlogging. Once established, lowbush blueberry tolerates dry spells well. Spread an acidic mulch (pine needles, peat) at the base to hold in moisture and keep the soil acidic. No pruning is required, but remove dead or weak branches in early spring.
