Planting and care

Plant the Princeton elm in fall or spring in an open spot that gets full sun. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, set the tree at ground level and backfill with garden soil. Firm well and create a watering basin.

Water generously at planting and keep the soil moist during the first growing season. Once established, the elm handles normal conditions well. No pruning is needed; let it develop naturally. Watch for Dutch elm disease, a serious fungal disease: remove affected branches without delay and disinfect your tools.
