Planting and care

Plant in rich, well-drained, slightly moist soil, in part shade or partial shade. The recommended spacing is 45 to 60 cm. Loosen the soil and add compost or growing mix before planting. The hole should be as deep as the root ball.

Water regularly during the first season to make sure it establishes. Once rooted, the plant tolerates moderately dry soils well. Spread organic mulch at the base to hold in moisture and regulate soil temperature. Cut the clump back to the ground in late fall or early spring.
