Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in a sunny spot. Cedar tolerates ordinary soils well, slightly moist or well drained. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, set the root collar at soil level and firm well without over-compacting. Mulch lightly around the base.

Water regularly the first year to encourage rooting. Once established, cedar is very tolerant and needs little care. Moderate watering in dry spells is enough. Avoid standing water. No pruning is required; trim lightly early in the season if the habit needs containing.
