Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in rich, well-drained soil, preferably in full sun. Allow 1 m of spacing between plants for a compact hedge. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and backfill with a mix of soil enriched with organic matter.

The first year, keep the soil moderately moist without waterlogging. Once established, the 'Emerald' cedar is very drought tolerant. Trim lightly every spring to thicken the silhouette and keep the conical shape. Avoid overly severe pruning, which leads to bare branches.
