Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil, ideally rich in organic matter, in shade or part shade to avoid drying out and scorching the foliage. Yew dislikes waterlogging: improve soil drainage if needed. Plant in spring to help the roots establish.

Water moderately and regularly the first year after planting, especially during hot, dry spells. Once established, the 'Hicksii' yew needs little care. Avoid long droughts and excess moisture. Organic mulch at the base helps keep the soil moist and cool.
