Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil, slightly acidic to neutral, preferably in part shade. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and set the plant at the same level as in its container. Firm the soil without over-compacting it. Water generously after planting to remove air pockets.

Keep the soil moist (not waterlogged) during the first year. Yew tolerates drought well once established. No regular pruning is needed, but it can be trimmed lightly after summer growth to keep the shape. Avoid soils that are waterlogged in winter, which encourage rot.
