Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in well-drained soil, sheltered from drying winds. Yew likes part shade or partial shade; in full sun it will still do well, but it prefers a cool setting. Set the root ball at soil level and firm well.

Water regularly after planting during the first year to make sure it takes well. Once established, yew tolerates moderate drought. No pruning is required; this shrub naturally takes on an elegant pyramidal shape. Avoid waterlogged soils in winter.
