Planting and care

Plant purple osier willow in moist, rich, well-drained soil. Choose a sunny spot. Dig a hole twice the diameter of the root ball and work in organic matter. Firm well and mulch the base to hold in moisture.

Water regularly during the first year of establishment, especially during drought. Purple osier willow likes constant moisture and tolerates soggy soils well. A light pruning after flowering keeps the shape and encourages branching. Little care afterwards, except during long droughts.
