Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in rich, well-drained soil. Choose a spot in full sun to get the most fruit. Space plants 1.5 to 2 m apart. Planting on slightly raised ground improves drainage and prevents root rot.

Water regularly the first year to make sure it takes well. Once established, the plant tolerates short droughts well. Spread organic mulch in spring to keep the soil moist and feed it. A light pruning after harvest encourages branching and the next year's productivity.
