Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Choose a spot in full sun (at least 6 hours a day). Space plants 1 to 1.5 m apart to encourage air circulation and reduce fungal diseases.

Water regularly at planting to establish good roots. Once established, the damask rose tolerates relative drought well but appreciates regular watering in hot or dry weather. Prune lightly after flowering and do a rejuvenation pruning in spring. Apply a balanced fertilizer at bud break and in summer to support successive blooms.
