Planting and care

Plant Ribes alpinum in fall or spring in well-drained soil, preferably in part shade. Space plants 1.5 to 2 m apart if planting a hedge. Add compost at planting and firm well. A moderate mulch protects the root system.

Regular watering is recommended the first year after planting, especially in dry spells. After that, the shrub tolerates moderate drought well. Little care is needed; a light pruning after flowering keeps a compact shape. No routine disease or pest treatment is needed.
