Planting and care

Plant in fall or early spring in a sunny spot, in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Allow open space, as this tree has a spreading habit. Planting may require temporary staking to keep it upright and stable.

During the first season and during summer droughts, keep the soil evenly moist without waterlogging. Gradually reduce watering after the second year once the roots are established. No routine pruning is required; step in only to remove dead or badly placed wood, in late winter.
