Planting and care

Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, neutral to slightly alkaline. The shrub tolerates poor and even sandy soils. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball, set the plant at ground level and firm well. A light addition of compost at planting helps it establish.

Water regularly for the four to six weeks after planting to make sure it takes well. After that, shrubby cinquefoil is very drought tolerant and needs practically no watering, except during long heat waves. No fertilizer is needed; a light pruning in spring is enough to keep a compact shape and stimulate flowering.
