Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in deep, rich, well-drained soil. Choose a sunny spot. Dig a hole three times as wide as the root ball, loosen the soil well and enrich it with organic matter. Put in a support if needed for young trees.

Water regularly for the first two years after planting, especially in dry weather. Once established, the tree copes better with drought. Spread mulch around the base to hold in soil moisture. Lightly prune excess branches in the first few years to form a balanced structure.
