Planting and care

Plant the Scots pine in well-drained, slightly acidic soil, in full sun. Allow 4 to 6 m of spacing depending on use (windbreak or specimen). Avoid spots that are too wet. Planting in fall or early spring gives the best results.

The Scots pine establishes quickly and needs practically no care once rooted. Regular watering the first year helps it take, especially in a drought. No pruning is needed; the pyramidal shape develops naturally. It tolerates difficult conditions well (cold, wind, poor soil) and doesn't mind pollution.
