A lower number means hardier. A zone 3 plant also grows in zone 5, never the other way around.

Enter your postal code and we will tell you your hardiness zone.

Very cold winter. A good choice for Quebec's northern regions (approx. -35 to -40 °C average minimum temperature).

    For example: Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Upper Mauricie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in well-drained soil, in full sun. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and make sure drainage is good. Stake the young plant if the weeping habit isn't well established yet. Spread organic mulch around the base without touching the trunk.

Regular watering is needed the first year to encourage root establishment. Gradually reduce after the second year; the white pine tolerates drought well once well rooted. Avoid compacted soils and standing moisture. A light pruning of badly placed branches can be done in late winter, but this cultivar needs little pruning.
