Planting and care

Plant ninebark in well-drained soil, preferably in full sun for better branching. Allow at least 2 m of spacing from other shrubs. Adding compost at planting improves establishment. Planting in fall or spring works well in cold regions.

Water regularly during the first year to make sure the roots take well. Once established, this tolerant shrub needs little care. Mulch at the base helps hold in soil moisture. Pruning can be done after flowering to control the shape and encourage density.
