Planting and care

Set the phlox in full sun, in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Spacing should be 45 to 60 cm between plants to ensure good air circulation and prevent fungal diseases. Adding compost at planting helps it establish.

Water regularly during growth and flowering to keep the soil moderately moist, without soaking it. Once established, phlox copes better with drought. Divide the clumps every 3 to 4 years in spring to rejuvenate the plant. Cutting off spent flowers will encourage a longer bloom. A light mulch in late fall protects the roots.
