Planting and care

Plant in full sun in well-drained, moderately rich soil. Fountain grass tolerates sandy, dry soils once established. Space 60 to 75 cm apart. Add plenty of organic matter at planting to support root establishment.

Water regularly the first season to encourage rooting. Once established, cut back on watering; this grass handles relative drought well. Cut the foliage back in spring (about 10 cm above the ground) before growth resumes. No regular fertilizer is needed; a light application of compost in spring is enough.
