Planting and care

Plant in spring or early fall in well-drained soil and full sun. Enrich the soil with a light layer of organic matter. Space plants 60 to 75 cm apart. No winter preparation is generally needed; leave the stems in place for winter protection and cut them to the ground in spring before growth resumes.

Water regularly for the first two weeks after planting. Once established, fountain grass tolerates drought well. In zone 5, a light mulch can protect the crown during a harsh winter. No pruning or specific treatment is needed during the season; this grass is undemanding.
