Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in a sunny spot, in rich, well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and put in a stake for the first three years. Backfill with a well-worked mix of soil and compost.

Water regularly the first year after planting to make sure the root system establishes. After that, keep the soil moist but not soggy during growth. A balanced fertilizer in spring promotes flower production. Pruning is limited to dead or crossing branches in winter.
