Planting and care

Plant Magnolia 'Galaxy' in fall or spring in a sunny spot, sheltered from strong winds that damage the early flowers. Dig a generous hole, amend the soil with organic matter and make sure drainage is good; magnolias don't tolerate standing moisture. The root collar should stay at soil level.

For the first two years, keep the soil moderately moist without excess water; 5 to 7 cm of mulch helps regulate moisture and moderate temperature swings. After establishment, the tree is undemanding. No regular pruning is needed; only remove dead or crossing branches in late summer so as not to affect the following year's flowering.
