Planting and care

Plant in well-drained, light soil, preferably even limy. Avoid heavy, wet soils, which cause rot. Space plants 45 to 60 cm apart. Set in full sun for the best flowering. Water sparingly while it establishes and once settled; let the soil dry out between waterings.

After flowering, prune lightly to keep a compact shape and prevent the base from going bare. No fertilizer is needed in average soil. Improve drainage further if the ground is heavy. In cooler climates, plan a gravel mulch in winter to protect the base.
