Planting and care

Plant the tamarack in full sun in well-drained soil, slightly acidic to neutral. It prefers cool soils but can tolerate various conditions. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, set the plant with the root collar at soil level and backfill with the excavated soil mixed with compost. Water generously after planting.

During the first season, keep the soil evenly moist without soaking it. Once well established, the tamarack tolerates drought and needs little care. No pruning is needed; let it develop naturally. Its deciduous foliage lets light through late in the season.
