Planting and care

Plant in part shade or partial shade, in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Add organic matter (peat or compost) at planting. Avoid scorching full sun, which can dry out the foliage and reduce flowering.

Water regularly during the first season to encourage rooting. Once established, keep the soil moderately moist during dry spells. Organic mulch (rotted leaves, bark) holds in moisture and insulates the roots. No pruning is required; clean out dead branches in spring and cut back lightly after flowering to thicken the habit.
