A lower number means hardier. A zone 3 plant also grows in zone 5, never the other way around.

Enter your postal code and we will tell you your hardiness zone.

Very cold winter. A good choice for Quebec's northern regions (approx. -35 to -40 °C average minimum temperature).

    For example: Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Upper Mauricie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil rich in organic matter, in full sun or part shade. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and set the shrub at the same level as in its pot. Backfill with a mix of soil and compost, then firm lightly and water thoroughly.

Water regularly the first summer to keep the soil cool. Once established, the panicle hydrangea will cope better with drought. Spread 5 to 7 cm of mulch around the base. A light pruning in late winter (shortening the main branches by a third) encourages dense branching and better flowering.
