Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, in a sunny spot. The 'White Pillar' rose of Sharon likes a south or southwest exposure. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and firm the soil well around it. A surface mulch helps hold in moisture.

Water regularly during the first year to make sure it takes well. After that, keep the soil moderately moist during the growing season. A light pruning in spring (before bud break) encourages a compact columnar silhouette and more abundant flowering. Fertilize moderately at the start of the season.
