Planting and care

Plant the American beech in fall or spring in a well-drained site, in full sun to part shade. Dig a hole wider than it is deep, without over-amending the soil: this beech likes natural ground. Allow enough space, as the tree reaches a fine spread at maturity.

Water regularly the first summer to encourage rooting. Once established, the beech tolerates dry spells well. No pruning is needed except to remove dead or badly placed branches. This tree needs very little care and ages remarkably well.
