Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil, in full sun. Adding sand or gravel at planting time improves drainage and prevents root rot, which is particularly important for dianthus. Space plants 25 to 30 cm apart.

Water moderately after planting until it is established (2–3 weeks). Then cut back on watering and let it dry slightly between waterings. Avoid standing moisture at the crown. Remove spent flowers regularly to extend the bloom through summer and fall.
