Planting and care

Plant in a spot sheltered from dry wind, in cool, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Dig a hole three times as wide as the root ball, without burying the root collar. A light mulch after planting protects the shallow roots.

Water regularly the first year to make sure it takes well. Gradually cut back on watering once established. This tree dislikes long droughts and very dry air; a humid setting promotes the best growth. No pruning is needed except to remove dead or badly placed branches.
