Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Choose a part-shade spot, especially in warm regions. Allow spacing of 0.8 to 1 m depending on use. Establishment requires regular watering for the first two years, especially in dry spells.

Once established, the 'Green Velvet' boxwood is very tolerant and needs little watering except during long droughts. Prune lightly after flowering or at the end of summer to keep the shape. Avoid excess water, which encourages fungal diseases. A 5 cm layer of mulch helps hold in moisture and moderate soil temperature.
