Planting and care

Plant the 'Green Gem' boxwood in spring or fall in rich, well-drained soil. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and at the same depth. Backfill with a mix of soil and organic matter. Choose a part-shade spot; it also tolerates full sun in cooler climates.

Water regularly for the first two years after planting to make sure it takes well, especially in dry spells. After that, boxwood tolerates moderate drought once established. Avoid standing excess moisture, which encourages fungal diseases. A light pruning in spring keeps the cultivar's natural compact shape.
