Planting and care

Plant in well-drained soil, in full sun. Choose a spot sheltered from strong winds. Add compost at planting. The shrub tolerates poor, dry soils well once established.

Water regularly the first season after planting to encourage rooting. After that, moderate watering is enough except during long droughts. Cut back hard in spring (before new leaves appear) to keep a compact habit and stimulate flowering. Remove spent flowers to extend the blooming period.
