Planting and care

Plant yarrow in well-drained soil and full sun. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball, set the plant in place without sinking it and backfill with a light mix. Adding compost is recommended in poor soils. Firm moderately and water thoroughly at planting.

During the first year, keep the soil slightly moist in dry spells. Once established, yarrow handles drought very well and needs little care. Remove spent flowers to extend the bloom. Divide the clumps every 3 to 4 years in spring to rejuvenate the plant and keep it dense.
