Planting and care

Plant in fall or spring in rich, well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, enrich the soil with organic matter and set the tree at the same level as in its container. Firm the soil and form a watering basin.

Water generously for the first two years after planting to encourage rooting. Once established, this maple tolerates drought well and needs little attention. Prune lightly in late winter to keep a good structure; avoid severe pruning, which weakens it.
