Planting and care

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained soil, slightly acidic to neutral. Choose a sunny spot to get the best fall colour. Dig a hole twice the diameter of the root ball and amend with compost at planting.

Water regularly the first year to make sure the root system establishes. Keep the soil moist but not soggy during active growth in spring and summer. Once established, the tree tolerates summer drought well and needs only minimal care; no pruning is needed except to remove dead or badly placed branches.
